AusDecking Composite Decking Installation Guide
1.Allow 3cm gap from any walls to allow air flow and expansion.
2.Ensure joists are perpendicular to the decking. We recommend spacing joists 350-400mm apart.
3.Apply starting clips to first row of joists, ensuring they are all in a straight line.
4. After fixing the first board, attach the next row of clips to the joist to secure. Then push the next decking board into the clips. Repeat this process as necessary until your deck is complete.
Once your deck surface is complete, cover the ends of the decking and your starter clips by applying an Ausdecking fascia board. Simply cut to size and use timber screws to screw the fascia board into the joists. We recommend pre drilling your holes.
5.If your deck requires joins, apply a double joist in order to properly secure the hidden screws to each joist. This will prevent the join from separating
6.Allow a 3cm gap between double joists. Remember to fix screw and clips to both joists to keep the join from separating.

What is Composite Decking made from?
Composite decking is crafted from a blend of wood fibres and recycled plastics, resulting in the appearance of timber with enhanced durability and minimal upkeep
What is the life span of composite decking?
Our decking provides a 10 year, structural warranty. With proper care and maintenance, your composite decking can endure longer.
Is composite decking more expensive than timber decking?
At first, composite decking may be costlier in certain situations, yet it demands minimal upkeep and boasts a longer lifespan, rendering it a financially savvy choice. The average return on investment for composite decking is typically 3-5 years depending on the size of the deck.
Does composite decking fade?
High-quality composite decking is designed to resist UV fading. However, slight fading may occur over time, but it won’t affect its performance. Depending on the particular model or colour, you may notice some slight fading as the composite decking climatises to your particular environment. This is typically 5-8%. For more information, please contact our sales team.
Can composite decking be installed over existing timber deck frame?
In most cases, you can reuse the existing subframe. Ensure that it is in good condition and free from any cracking or rotting. You may need to add additional joists, to ensure that the span is 350-400mm apart.
Is composite decking slip-resistant?
Numerous composite decking options are engineered to be slip-resistant, particularly when wet, rendering them a secure option for composite decking around the pool.
Does composite decking need be painted or stained?
No, the beauty of composite decking is that it doesn’t need painting or staining. It retains its colour naturally, and applying paints or stains may void warranties.
How do I maintain composite decking?
Routine maintenance includes clearing away debris and utilizing warm, clean water. Steer clear of abrasive chemicals or high-pressure cleaners that may cause surface damage. You may use light cleaning chemicals to remove stubborn messes.
Is composite decking hard to install?
Not at all! Composite decking and cladding is designed to be installed using the same tools as required for a timber decking. We do recommend using a fine tooth composite blade to allow for cleaner cuts.
